Here Katherine Helmond is pictured in Hitchcock’s endearing comedy-thriller Family Plot (1976); In her iconic TV role as the matriarch on Soap (1977-1981); As Mrs. Ogre in Terry Gilliam’s wild ride Time Bandits (1981); In her iconic face-stretching role in Terry Gilliam’s outrageous Brazil (1985); As ghost lady in Lady in White (1988); As the hotel clerk in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). One of those familiar faces, obscure film fans might know her as a racist bitty in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1974), a podunk mom to Ron Howard inn the eco-horror flick Locusts (1974), as Lizzie’s sister in The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975), and as a mentally disturbed industrialist’s wife in the obscure ‘80s gem Shadey (1987). Shadey is why I love her as I do—even despite that other TV show I won’t mention (Katherine Helmond was the boss at any rate). This post is from my website Quirky Cinema.
